Introduction
Dr. Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul kalam was famously known as Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. He was popularly known as 'Missile Man' who headed several Ballistic missiles including Agni and Prithvi missiles.
He was such a well-known scientist who rose to the height of being the first citizen of India i.e. the President of India. He was not only known as a well-known scientist but also an inspirational personality that impressed every class of society.
Dr. Kalam was the architect of India's integrated missile development program and recipient of the highest civilian award Bharat Ratna. He was one of the most valued persons in the country for his amazing contribution to scientists.
Family profile
Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam was born on 15th October 1931 at Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu. He was the youngest of five siblings. His father, Jainulabdeen was a boat owner as well as an Imam of a local mosque. His mother, Ashiamma was a good homemaker. Kalam was the youngest of all of his siblings.
Dr. Kalam's childhood was very tough. He was born into a destitute family but managed to overcome all obstacles and worked hard in life to achieve his dream. He used to sell newspapers to support his family at a very early stage.
Even though he was an average student, his teacher remembered him as a hard-working student with an inquisitive mind.

Educational life
He completed his early education at Schwartz Higher Secondary school, Ramanathapuram. After completing higher secondary education, he earned a graduate degree in physics from saint Joseph' college in 1954, Tiruchirappalli.
In 1955, he further moved to Madras to study aerospace engineering. He successfully completed his aerospace engineering at the Madras Institute of Technology, Chennai in 1960.

Contribution of APJ Abdul Kalam
Dr. Kalam joined the Aeronautical Development Establishment of the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) in 1969. He worked for DRDO long time, but he was unconvinced with his choice of job there.
In 1969, he was transferred to the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). In July 1980 after a long hard work, he headed the creation of India's first Satellite Launch Vehicle (SLV-111) which successfully deployed the 'Rohini' satellite in space. This was the first leading step for our country to become a member of the space club.
After successfully SLV program, he headed several other projects. Under several missions, Kalam with other project members developed many Ballistic missiles including Agni and Prithvi missiles.
Agni and Prithvi are surface-to-surface ballistic missiles. Other Ballistic missiles are Dhanush, Trishul, Prahaar, etc. Agni and Prithvi earned him the title of "Missile Man of India".
With great success in his various endeavors like directing projects to develop Ballistic missiles, creating polar satellite launching vehicles, and Advanced missile programs. With his involvement in Nuclear power in India, he was known as the "Missile Man of India". He successfully conducted the Pokhran nuclear test in 1998. Nuclear tests under the supervision of Kalam from 1992 to 1999 made India a great nuclear-armed country. He headed several nuclear tests.
Dr. Kalam's great contribution to the development of scientific research and modernization of Defence technology in India brought him prestige, laureate honors, and other many awards.
Dr. Kalam also served as the chief scientific adviser to Prime minister 'Atal Bihari Vajpayee' of that time.

His motivational speeches encouraged people especially, the students to do something best in their life. . His journey in life motivates us to not be disappointed by the defeat. He taught us how to face difficult situations. He was an excellent lecturer too.
He adored children and students too much. He used to organize several seminars for children and interact with students where students used to ask their doubtful questions. Dr. Kalam used to answer all questions admiringly. He advised the youths to "Think Big."
He said, "The nation needs a role model in leadership that can inspire the youth."
He also said, "We will be remembered only if we give to our younger generation a prosperous and safe India, resulting out of economic prosperity coupled with civilization heritage."

Demise of Abdul Kalam
Dr. Kalam at the age of 83 passed away on 27th July 2015. He passed away while delivering a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong, due to an apparent cardiac arrest.
He was cremated with full state Honors in his Hometown, Rameshwaram.
